Korean Constitutional Court Upholds Presidential Impeachment: Employment-Policy Implications

On April 4, 2025, Korea’s Constitutional Court voted unanimously to uphold the National Assembly’s impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol for offences related to his declaration of martial law on December 3, 2024. President Yoon had been suspended from office pending the Constitutional Court’s review of the impeachment. With the Court’s final and complete decision, President Yoon is now permanently removed from office, effective immediately. New presidential elections will be held within 60 days, likely between May 24, 2025 and June 3, 2025.
