Introduction to the ISMS Certification

The Act on Promotion of Information and Communication Network Utilization and Information Protection (the “Network Act”) has established a certification system designed to assess the adequacy of information security management system (ISMS) implemented by business entities (the “ISMS Certification”). The primary goal of the ISMS Certification is to ensure the stability and reliability of information and communication networks.
The Network Act mandates the ISMS Certification for certain domestic and overseas business entities. Therefore, overseas entities, including subsidiaries or branches of global companies that operate overseas systems, servers, etc., to provide information communication services in Korea (hereinafter referred to as “overseas businesses”), can also be subject to the ISMS Certification obligations.
