Renewal of broadcasting rights contracts between Korea Football Association and TV Chosun for Korean National Football Team and Korea Cup matches

Yulchon successfully advised the KFA on the renewal of its broadcasting rights contracts with TV Chosun for Korean National Football Team and Korea Cup matches – securing the highest broadcasting rights fee in the KFA’s history.

With its existing contract set to expire in August 2024, the KFA engaged Yulchon to lead negotiations for a new agreement. Yulchon represented the KFA throughout the process and achieved a long-term renewal, valid through December 31, 2034.

This contract set a new benchmark in Korean sports broadcasting rights negotiations. Yulchon played a key role in shaping the structure and terms of the deal by conducting detailed legal and commercial analyses on critical issues – including the methodology for calculating broadcasting rights fees, the scope of resale rights, ownership of related copyrighted content, and evidentiary burdens in the event of a contractual dispute.

As the governing body for football in South Korea, the KFA oversees the sport’s development at all levels, including national teams, youth and women’s football, international partnerships with organizations such as FIFA and the AFC, and the organization of nationwide tournaments.
