Byun, Hyun Chul
Introduction
Hyun Chul Byun is a partner at Yulchon who practices primarily in the area of dispute resolution. Before joining Yulchon, he served as a judge for 23 years at various courts, including the Seoul High Court, the Gwangju High Court, and the Patent Court. Mr. Byun also served as both research judge and public information judge at the Supreme Court of Korea.

- 2018 Represented Hanwha in partially winning the case claiming for the return of performance guarantee deposit against Daewoo Shipping & Marine Engineering in the reverse and sending back lawsuit
- 2018 Represented Sun, Jong-Koo, ex-chairman of Hi-Mart, in obtaining the decision to cancel the assessment of gift tax
- 2017 Represented Kim, Seung Yeon, Chairman of Hanwha Group, in obtaining suspended sentence in the criminal case of the reverse and sending back lawsuit
- 2016 Successfully represented construction companies including Hyundai E&C in the appeal case seeking compensation for damages in connection with their alleged collusion in Subway Line No. 7 construction project
- 2016 Successfully represented Hyundai Motor Company in a case seeking damages for the exaggerated gas mileage
- 2016 Successfully represented fourteen construction companies including Hyundai Engineering & Construction in a case seeking overhead fees as per the extended work period
- 2015 Successfully represented Dongjin D&C in a case wherein the injunction to suspend construction was filed
- 2015 Successfully represented Kyongnam Bank in a case seeking the return of wrongful enrichment filed by the Construction Workers Mutual Aid Association in the lower court as well as the appellate court
- 2014 Obtained partial acquittal for the client in a criminal case involving the infringement of business secrets( handled by the litigation and intellectual property teams)
- 2013 Successfully represented major Korean construction companies in a case seeking indirect costs for No.7 Seoul Subway Line
