[Global Competition Review] Yulchon Receives GCR’s 2012 Behavioural Matter of the Year Award for Asia-Pacific, Middle East & Africa

Yulchon’s defense of Samsung Electronics in a TFT-LCD cartel investigation won Global Competition Review’s Behavioural Matter of the Year Award for Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa. This case is noteworthy in that the administrative fines were the largest ever assessed by the Korea Fair Trade Commission in an international cartel case and Samsung Electronics, the global market leader in TFT-LCD panels, was the only alleged conspirator to be granted a full exemption from sanctions.

GCR asked law firms, economics firms, competition authorities, corporate legal departments, and universities to send nominations for the GCR Awards 2012 and gathered more than 140 nominations over three months. After the shortlist was revealed, around 1,500 GCR readers cast their votes online, and the winners were announced on March 27th at the GCR Awards dinner in Washington DC. The result further cements the firm’s reputation for having the top competition practice in Korea.
